USC Trojans History
USC vs UCLA 2005
Los Angeles- A step away from playing for an unprecedented third straight national title the top-ranked USC Trojans annihilated 11th ranked crosstown rival UCLA 66-19 at the Memorial Los Angeles Coliseum, led by RB Reggie Bush who rushed for 260 yards and two touchdowns the USC Trojans left no doubt in anyones mind who is the No.1 team in all the land, won for the 34th consecutive time and 16th straight against a ranked opponent, now only 2nd ranked Texas who will face the USC Trojans in the Rose Bowl on January 4th stand between them and a historic season, the USC Trojans had a few close calls this season, most notably their wins over Notre Dame and Fresno State, but Saturday's performance was a complete and thorough beating against a team that had only one loss and evoke memories of last season's drubbing of Oklahoma Sooners in the BCS Title game, from the outset it was a smothering defense show against an offense that averaged 444 yards, 40 points a game, and boasted QB Drew Olson who was the nation's passing efficiency leader coming into the game, but USC Trojans were still seething about numerous remarks in the media about their defensive defiencies and held the high powered offense of the UCLA Bruins to only 275 yards total offense, forcing Olson into 14-32 passing for a mere 146 yards, sacking Drew Olson five times, forcing three turnovers, and holding the UCLA Bruins without a touchdown until only 3:33 remained in the game, but this day would belong to Reggie Bush who cemented his Heisman Trophy candidacy with a breathtaking performance,
Against the 115th-ranked run defense in the country, the USC Trojans made their intentions clear from the start. Keep it simple and let Reggie Bush put a punctuation mark on his Heisman campaign. No doubt both Reggie Bush and last year's Heisman winner QB Matt Leinart will be in New York next Saturday when the big bronze trophy is handed out. And after the way Reggie Bush finished off the regular season, it certainly seems like it's his turn hold the hardware, Reggie Bush tore through the UCLA Bruin defense for 107 yards in the first quarter alone and upped his output in the second quarter with 121 rushing yards, and for all purposes iced the game at the end of the half with a 10yd touchdown run to put the USC Trojans ahead 31-6
"We were just on fire," Bush said. "We knew we can do whatever we wanted against these guys as long as we execute. Hopefully, that confidence will be able to carry over to the Rose Bowl."QB Matt Leinart was jittery throughout the first half due to his emotions as he openly weeped when he was announced for the final time at the Coliseum on senior day and passed for under 100 yards and had a completion percentage that was under 50%, but he came on strong in the second half as he completed touchdown passes to TE Fred Davis and RB Lendale White who also rumbled for 154 yards and 3TD's and also broke Charles White touchdown record of 53, Matt Leinart finished 21 for 40 with 233 yards passing three scores and made his record as a collegiate starter 37-1 with 3 Pacific Ten Conference Championships, he is only one of two QB's to be named first team All Pac-10 three consecutive seasons, the other being UCLA's Gary Beban....
"Our defense was on the field too long," UCLA Bruins coach Karl Dorrell said. "We played catch up with our offense and that was a difficult task."

USC Team Report (Yahoo! Sports)
USC fans have to keep repeating: Quality over quantity ... quality over quantity ... quality over quantity ...
There is no shortage of stars in the Trojans' recruiting class, which is limited to 15 players because of NCAA sanctions. Turns out that USC used only 12 scholarships on signing day, and coach Lane Kiffin said he would use the remaining three to sign players after the fall semester, providing the Trojans keep under their NCAA-reduced limit of 75 total scholarship players.
At the semester break this year, USC added three high school players, a junior college transfer and Florida safety Josh Shaw.
Despite the low numbers, Kiffin still pulled in a Top 10 class, as rated by Rivals.com.
STRATEGY AND PERSONNEL (Yahoo! Sports) Y LOSSES: RB Ronnie Hillman was the leading rusher in the Mountain West Conference for two straight years before deciding to test the NFL waters as an early entry.
